Retailing shopping has become very popular since the last few years because of the large department stores and supermarkets. Through these stores and the different products, safely packing the products that the customers have purchased and ensuring that the bags are safe to the environment became a challenge. This is due to the fact that most debates are entirely focused on the issues regarding paper bags and plastic bags that are used to contain the products bought from the store by the shopper. Well, regarding which is best to use, a paper bag or a plastic bag, let us take a look at the different issues. One of the main concerns is how to dispose the plastic bags that are produced each year in the United States alone. The number created is about 100 billion plastic bags. In this large quantity, only 2% is recycled and the environmentalists are quite concerned about this. Also, the plastic bags are dangerous to children since some cases of death were related to suffocation.
It is an issue with plastic bag that this doesn’t decompose unlike the paper bag. The material contained in the plastic can break into minute components after they are exposed to the rays of the sun and when the small compounds enter the food chain, they pose danger to the creatures that belong to the lower echelons. Also, it is a known fact that the digestive tracts of most mammals are not able to digest bags made of plastic. There are hundreds of animals like goats, sheep and cows that are killed every year after ingesting plastic bags. Also, the plastic bags are capable of releasing toxins in the water system, atmosphere and the food system. Hence, with this awareness, many have made the move to utilize a paper bag or a recyclable bag for containing the merchandise purchased in order to help save the environment and protect the creatures.
